Jubilation hits Kebbi as Army Distributes equipment to Soldiers wives



Nigeria Army has commenced the distribution of multi-million Naira equipment for wives and children of officers and personnel at 1st Battalion, Dukku Barracks, Birnin-Kebbi, in Kebbi State.

The equipment included 98 laptops, 175 sewing machines, 18 fish farming drums, 22 shoe-making machines and eight melting machines.

While launching the two-week workshop for 490 participants at Dukku Barracks, Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, said that the empowerment was free and it would serve as motivation for the morale of soldiers at the warfronts especially those fighting Book Haram in Borno State.

Gen. Buratai, represented by Commanding Officer 10 Brigade, Sokoto, Brig. General Kenneth Nwosu, noted that the gestures was aimed to ensure that widows of fallen heroes and their children and other dependants of personnel did not suffer while their breadwinners paid the supreme price or are national or international assignments.

He said that 490 of them were on the verified list and they would be train on ICT, tailoring, shoe making, fish farming and hair dressing.

The Chief of Army Staff appealed to the participants to utilise the two weeks seminar to acquire necessary skills stressed that the Army would continue to monitor their progress.

The Acting Commanding Officer of 1st Battalion, Dukku Barracks, Birnin-Kebbi, Captain Aliu Adams, appreciated the gesture of Chief of Army Staff and stressed that the wives and children of soldiers would utilise the opportunity they were given judiciously.

In his remarks, Managing Director of Davids Shield, who are handling the two weeks workshop, Col. Mike David, said they would train the participants both theory and practical before they distribute the equipment to them.
