How Kenyan athlete won the Lagos Marathon

Abraham Kiptum – a Kenyan athlete – won the Lagos Marathon for the second year in a row today, February 11, 2017.

He completed the 42.1km race in a time of 2 hours, 16 minutes, 23 seconds – about five minutes more that his previous record.

Ronny Kipkoech Kiboss and Kiprotich Kiroi, both from Kenya, came second and third in a time of 2:15:25s and 2:15:30s respectively.

Kiptum received the cash prize of $50,000 (about N15.8m) while Kipkoech and Kiroi also won themselves $40,000 and $30,000 respectively.

Over 70,000 athletes from 27 countries participated in this year’s edition of the Lagos marathon, which started at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere and ended at Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island in seven hours.

A seven-year-old girl, Damilola Oluwaseyi triumphed in the 10km children race at the 2017 Lagos Marathon.
