Driven by urgency and compassion, the journey of Malou Perez began in 2018 after learning about a Bacolod City pound where pets were being euthanized changed her life forever.
This pivotal moment led to Perez founding Pawssion Project, a non-profit organization with a mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome stray animals. Since then, Perez’s efforts have brought hope to countless mistreated and neglected animals all over the Philippines.
Pawssion Project’s purpose is simple yet sincere: to give a second chance at life to animals that cannot speak for themselves. Aside from providing food, shelter, and medical care, the organization rescues dogs and cats from dire situations. The group is also a champion for animal rights by raising awareness about ethical and responsible pet ownership and anti-cruelty policies. Perez emphasizes that every animal deserves affection, regardless of their circumstances or past.
The organization has shelters in Bacolod and Bulacan where they house hundreds of rescued animals. Pawssion Project shelters go beyond basic care; they rehabilitate mistreated animals, prepare them for adoption, and conduct spay and neuter initiatives. Despite limited resources, the organization has become a ray of hope for countless animals.
Community involvement plays a crucial role in the success Pawssion Project. The organization encourages people to volunteer, donate, and adopt rather than shop for pets. For those unable to adopt, fostering animals temporarily is another way to help. Malou also highlighted the importance of activism, urging concerned individuals to use their voices and platforms to raise awareness about animal welfare.
Pawssion Project’s efforts remind us that meaningful change can stem from compassion and collective action. Perez and her co-volunteers not only save the lives of animals but also inspire others to stand up for the voiceless.
As the new year begins, Pawssion Project offers Filipinos a meaningful cause to support – one that welcomes every bit of help with open hearts and arms.
