The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has clarified that VMX actress Gina Lima did not die from physical injuries, debunking rumors circulating online that she was beaten to death.
In an autopsy report released Tuesday, November 18, the QCPD Forensic Unit confirmed that the bruises found on Gina’s thigh were non-fatal. Instead, examiners noted heart congestion and congested, edematous lungs. Authorities are still awaiting toxicology and histopathology results to determine her official cause of death.
Gina was found unconscious inside a Quezon City condominium unit on November 16 and was brought to the hospital by her former boyfriend, Ivan Cesar Ronquillo, who was with her at the time. She was declared dead on arrival.
However, instead of being thanked for helping Gina, Ivan became the target of online bashing, with some netizens accusing him of harming the actress despite no medical findings supporting such claims.
Just days after Gina’s passing, Ivan was also discovered lifeless in the same condominium unit, deepening the tragedy and raising concerns about the emotional and psychological toll he experienced following the backlash.
Before his death, Ivan posted emotional messages and video clips on Facebook expressing his grief and despair.
“Mahal na mahal kita… hayaan mo, susunod ako sa’yo,” he wrote on the morning of November 19.
He also showed scratches and minor injuries on his face and hands, sparking further speculation as online attacks intensified.
Police have not confirmed the cause of Ivan’s death, but investigators are looking into all possible angles, including the possibility that he took his own life after being overwhelmed by grief and social media hate.
The twin deaths of Gina and Ivan continue to be investigated as authorities await full forensic results.
This heartbreaking case has once again highlighted how cruel online comments, false accusations, and social media pressure can deeply affect a person’s mental health—sometimes with devastating consequences.
