Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla dropped a bombshell to cap off 2025, pointing a finger at the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) as the most corrupt agency under his watch.
According to Phil Star, which cited Remulla’s interview with Bilyonaryo News Channel on Wednesday, December 17, the BFP is worst than the the Philippine National Police (PNP), describing it as “the most corrupt of all” agencies under the DILG.
These DILG oversees the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Local Government Academy, National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, National Police Commission, National Youth Commission, Philippine Commission on Women, the PNP, through the National Police Commission, and the Philippine Public Safety College.
Remulla claimed that there are officers and personnel from the BFP who use their badges for illegal activities, and that they have already identified “corrupt” officials who will be kicked out of service starting January next year.
“Corruption in the BFP is actually more extensive than I thought. It starts from the firemen all the way to the chief,” he said.
Remulla added that an internal investigation exposed some of the BFP’s corrupt acts, including alleged recruitment bribery that supposedly reached P500,000.00.
Fire inspection fees, fire extinguisher sales, and fire sprinkler contracts with inflated costs
were also cited by the Remulla.
