RECEIVING a best actor award is nothing new for the one and only Piolo Pascual, but this time, he won as the Best Performance by an Actor in a Musical for his titular role as Crisostomo Ibarra in the musical play version of Ibarra.
The musical staged on June 8 to 18 of last year at the GSIS theater, a reimagined musical from a 2015 play that is â Kanser, The Musical, directed by Frannie Zamora.
Piolo bested other nominated theatre actorsâ Khalil Ramos and Jeff Flores for Tick Tick Boom, Gio Gahol for Walang Aray and Gian Magdangal for Carousel.
The masterpiece has a live 13-piece ensemble from the Manila Symphony Orchestra.
The Return
Ibarra, the Musical was an avenue for the actor to return to theatre after 30 years since he staged in a musical theater and unveil his passion for patriotism.
His first theater performance was at University of Santo Tomas as a member of Teatro Tomasino and has not performed in any theatrical pieces since then.
The Philippine LEAF Awards will take place at Metropolitan Theatre on February 8, 2024.
