How to Keep Up with Politics Without Getting Overwhelmed

The Platform News PH believes that everything is political because it literally charts the course of a nation, especially in terms of the economy. Anyone who claims to be apolitical is either filthy rich or blissfully ignorant. So, dipping an occasional toe into the discourse isn’t some grand invitation to be woke, despite what some may claim these days.

But with all the shenanigans from our political players, it can sometimes take a toll on your mental health. And that’s okay. It’s perfectly fine to step back, analyze the impending doom and gloom from a safe distance, and choose not to add to the noise and hysteria. After all, losing sleep over it might turn out to be expensive.

Here are some tips to help you refocus without being out of touch:

Manage Your Algorithm
The urge to click on a breaking news update during a man-made political upheaval is real. But be warned—doing so will only feed the algorithm, flooding your feed with endless iterations of the same chaos, enough to overwhelm even the most jaded supporter. If you want to stay informed without falling into the algorithmic rabbit hole, visit credible news sites directly instead.

Argue with the Wall Instead
I get it. More than anything, you just want to prove to the blind fanatics that due diligence and research matter—that what you stand for is the right side of history. But you also know their ears are shut. So what’s the point, right? It’s like crying over spilled milk… to someone who’s lactose intolerant. Instead of going on a screaming spree, trying to hurl your points at someone who will never listen, argue with a wall instead. At least one of them isn’t breathing.

Hold Your Comments
There’s a reason keyboard warriors don’t show their faces online. It’s a precaution—because all they want is to spew hate and ignorance incognito. You don’t need to be like that. Skip the comments section, even if your fingers are literally itching to refute every unwarranted claim with your scintillating thoughts. The last thing you want is them hounding you for striking a nerve.

Taking mental health breaks is not tantamount to apathy. Sometimes, it’s just self-preservation—because you can’t fight the good fight if you’re already running on empty.
