Meet the ‘Otrovert,’ the new personality type making waves

Move over introverts, extroverts, and ambiverts, there’s a new personality type in town, and it’s shaking up the conversation.

Coined by psychiatrist Dr. Rami Kaminski, the term otrovert is rapidly gaining attention for capturing something many people have felt but never had the words for.

So what exactly is an otrovert? Simply put: an otrovert is someone who shines socially, but only when they’re around the right people. Think of them as social chameleons, not in a deceptive way, but in a “my vibe depends on my tribe” sort of way.

Unlike introverts who recharge by spending time alone, and extroverts who thrive on constant interaction, otroverts fall somewhere fascinatingly different.

They can be outgoing and energized by socializing… but only with carefully selected companions. Put them in a crowd of strangers and they might clam up faster than you can say “group chat.”

Place them among trusted friends? Suddenly, they’re the life of the party, cracking jokes, oversharing stories, and planning the next brunch.

Ambiverts, meanwhile, balance both introverted and extroverted traits across most situations. But otroverts? Their switch flips entirely based on who they’re with, not the situation itself.

In a world obsessed with labels, the rise of the otrovert offers a comforting reminder: you don’t have to fit neatly into a box.

Maybe you’ve been introverted in the office but a stand-up comedian with your barkada. Maybe you’ve always felt “in between.”

If so, welcome to the club, you just might be an otrovert. And yes, it’s absolutely a vibe, and definitely okay.
