July 8, 2025 | Quezon City, PhilippinesThe Platform News Philippines, in partnership with the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs – Office of Student Development Services (OVPAA-OSDS), successfully launched #ProjectStigma, a multi-sectoral mental health advocacy initiative held at the University Hotel, Oblation Lounge, University of the Philippines Diliman.

The event brought together policymakers, educators, public health professionals, and youth leaders to confront mental health stigma, promote open conversations, and push for inclusive reforms in mental health and sexual health education.

“This event is not just a campaign launch. It marked the start of a wider movement to reshape how we treat mental health in our communities,” said TPN Spokesperson Atty. Gilbert Lauenco, he added “By combining Filipino values like pakikisama, paggalang, and pagpapahalaga sa pamilya with science-based strategies, we hope to build a more compassionate and informed society.”

The launch featured expert panels, audience interaction through Menti, and key presentations outlining long-term goals. These include:

  • The Break the Stigma Caravan, a school and community outreach program offering free mental health clinics, workshops, and counseling
  • The Raise the Human Race multimedia campaign, sharing real stories of mental health struggles and recovery
  • The creation of The Wellness Hub, an inclusive digital platform on mental, reproductive, and emotional wellness
  • The development of the Mental Health Data and Information System (MH-DIS), a research facility to support data-driven mental health policy

Project Stigma also supported calls for the proposed Universal Mental Health Coverage Act and Mental Health Infrastructure Expansion Act, which seek to expand access to care, integrate mental health into basic health services, and train barangay-level providers.
