The southwest monsoon, locally known as Hanging Habagat, is currently affecting the western section of Luzon, bringing rains of varying intensity across several provinces. Areas including Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Bulacan, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro are expected to experience moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall.
The likelihood of rain increases in the afternoon and evening, with possible heavy downpours during those periods. The remaining parts of Luzon will have generally cloudy to overcast skies.
In the Visayas, most areas will also experience cloudy conditions with chances of isolated rain showers due to the influence of cloud clusters and the prevailing monsoon winds.
In Mindanao, moderate rains are expected over Palawan, the Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), also due to the southwest monsoon. Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao may still experience sudden rain showers and thunderstorms caused by localized convective activity.
At present, there is no tropical cyclone or Low Pressure Area (LPA) being monitored inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. However, cloud clusters located east of Luzon and the Visayas are being closely observed for any signs of circulation that may develop into an LPA in the coming days.
Residents in affected areas are advised to take precautionary measures against possible flooding or landslides and to stay updated through official bulletins and announcements from PAGASA.
