MANILA, Philippines – Approximately P82 million worth of agricultural damage due to landslides and flooding caused by a shear-line in Davao City have been recorded by agricultural authorities, the Office of Civil Defense said Monday.
“We have an initial estimate sa damage to agriculture, is umabot po tayo ng 82 million, pero posible pa po itong magbago dahil iyon nga po, with the improvement of the weather, nakakalabas na po iyong mga nagka-conduct noon rapid assessment,” OCD Spokesperson Edgar Posadas told reporters in a palace press briefing.
Posadas said that there were a total of 16 casualties, up by one from the 15 casualties initially reported by authorities from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
Posadas said that the landslide disaster on Mt. Diwata in Monkayo, Davao de Oro, brought about 12 deaths.
Two persons died in Davao City, one in Davao Oriental, and one in Davao Occidental, said Posadas.
“Sa ngayon po, we have a total of 152,6000 plus affected families or 600,000 plus individuals po ito in 388 barangays,” said Posadas.
OCD likewise reported that 86 percent of the power supply in the area had been restored already while the water supply was completely operational as of Monday morning.
Last week, inclement weather conditions caused by a shear line were experienced in the region, causing massive flooding and landslides.
A state of calamity has been declared in the provinces of Davao del Norte and Davao de Oro by their respective local governments.
